This is an old recipe that my family loves. Any guests that have had it always end up wanting the recipe! Apple Pandowdy
3/4 cup Brown Sugar 1/4 cup flour 1/4 tsp. salt 1 cup water 2 tsp. vinegar 1/4 cup molasses 4-5 apples, peel and core, slice into eights 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/8 tsp nutmeg 2 Tbs. butter Biscuit Batter: 1 cup flour 2 tsp Baking powder 3/4 tsp salt 3 Tbs butter 3/4 cup milk
Combine brown sugar, flour, salt. Gradually stir in water, vinegar, molasses. Cook, stirring, over medium heat til smooth and thick. Remove from heat, set aside. Arrange sliced apples in a well greased 12X8X2 baking dish. Cover with the sauce. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Dot with butter. To make biscuit batter, sift together dry ingredients. Cut in butter with a pastry blender til crumbly. Add milk just til dampened. Drop by spoonsfuls over the apples. Bake at 375*F. for 30 minutes. Then break thru the biscuit topping with a fork and work it down among the apples. Bake for 10 minutes longer. Serve warm, with cream if desired. Delicious!!!
