I remember making the first meal for my boyfriend who later became my hubby (and much later ex but! nothing to do with my cooking . As we do we plan, tho mind you I was not the world's greatest cook and didn't know a steak from a lump of stewing meat. I was but a tender 19 yr old tho. I made sure I had all the colour co-ordinating vegies, precisely placed on the plate but where was I going to put the steak? It's shape didn't resemble any steak I had seen before! It had morphed into the shape of a half cut tennis ball and ideally could have doubled as a scoop for the mashed potatoes. Oh! yes I had cooked up a piece of stewing steak but he ate it and I even got a photo now long lost but wow the colour was great

That was great. It reminded me of the first meal I prepared for my then boyfriend, now husband. (Still my husband after 26 years)
I started by burning the mashpotatoes, had to redoo them. cooked the steak and desert. then my darling(ckl sister in law came in and said "Micheline is making the meal, but she never cooked before" That sure made my husband feel very secure, I could have strangled her. LOL....
My cooking skills have greatly impoved. I now love to cook.

Hi Micheline aren't you pleased we improved with time, effort and experimenting for sure your hubby didn't see your first disaster as a stumbling block huh lol! Don't think our menfolk escape our eagle eyes either, mine is an ex navy cook and he still burns pots of peas geez do I hate it! He has a habit of deciding to cook then wanders off and forgets and everything is on high! His scones are terrible, his gravy is so-so and his baked potatoes passable. But he makes a great stir fry and loads of other goodies but despite his shortcomings I still think he's tops ;D

Well Homemade your husband sounds like the cook my husband discribed while he was in the navy. Almost everything I cooked for him before we were married was very successful. I had a terrible time getting a couple eggs to go over easy and stay intact but finally succeeded. The first meal after we were married was burned pork chops. I fell back on my mother's statement in such circumstances "Eat it, charcoals good for you". I rarely have to remind him, if something has the slightest tinge of being extra brown, his comment "Charcoal's good for you"
