:(Hi Debbie, just getting the hang of the message board. I hope you are on the road to recovery and doing all that you are advised to do.
I just want you to know that we haven't forgotten about your continued search, but try as we may we can't find a Howlmaine. How far back have you managed to search. I paid and joined one of these family search groups, all their searches were from England and Wales Census'. I finally pulled the plug when they told me that another Sylvia Wilson had been born in England and shared the same birthdate. My Father was the last male Wilson in our Family. Ron is very serious about his search and has gone back to mid 1600s. Compulsory registration didn't become law in Scotland until 1855 before then it was based on Parish Church Records. I was Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages in our Town Hall for five years and had access to all the old records from all the villages in my area, these records were sometimes taken by the post mistress, local mid-wife etc. and there were many mistakes made especially in the spelling of names. Ron has made use of the Latter Day Saints records and has paid to spend times in Register House in Edinburgh. I wouldn't like to think how many graveyards we have visited looking at headstones for info, we even visited the graveyards in Cassino in Italy. If you have a correct name and a correct date either d.o.b. marriage or death great. Otherwise as I am sure you know you are in for a long frustrating search. If you can give me a Scottish name and date, we shall try again.
Keep well and take care.
I have posted on your site previously, but I may have made some kind of mistake.
