1 9 inch pastry shell baked 12 caramels unwrapped 1 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk 2 1 ounce squares unsweetened chocolate 1/4 cup butter or margarine 2 eggs 2 tablespoons water 1 teaspoon vanilla dash salt 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. In a heavy saucepan, over low heat, melt caramels with 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk. Spread evenly on bottom of prepared pastry shell. In a medium saucepan, over low heat, melt chocolate with butter or margarine. In a large mixer bowl, beat eggs with remaining sweetened condensed milk, water, vanilla and salt. Add chocolate mixture: mix well. Pour in to prepared pastry shell. Top with pecans. Bake 35 minutes or until center is set. Cool. Chill. Refrigerate leftovers.
Makes one 9 inch pie.
