Homestyle Cranberry-Apple Bake
Almond extract makes the crust on this homey dessert special. Don’t forget to top with sweetened whipped cream!
Prep: 20 min Cook: 40 min
1 pound (3 medium) Granny Smith or other cooking apples, cored and coarsely chopped 3/4 cup cranberries, coarsely chopped 1/3 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped 1 cup sugar, divided 1/4 cup raisins 1/2 teaspoon finely shredded fresh orange peel 1/4 teaspoon McCormick® Ground Allspice 1 egg 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 cup butter, melted 1/2 teaspoon McCormick® Pure Vanilla Extract 1/4 teaspoon McCormick® Pure Almond Extract 1/8 teaspoon salt Sweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
1. Generously butter a 9-inch deep dish pie plate; set aside.
2. In a large bowl combine apples, cranberries, walnuts, 2/3 cup sugar, raisins, orange peel, and allspice. Spread mixture evenly in the bottom of prepared pie plate; set aside.
3. For topping, in a medium bowl combine egg, flour, melted butter, 1/3 cup sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Spoon batter evenly over fruit mixture.
4. Bake in a 350°F oven 40 to 45 minutes or until topping is brown and a wooden toothpick inserted in center of topping comes out clean. Cool slightly in pie plate on a wire rack. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
