I am a American Historian and I am compiling handwritten recipe cards and books to be eventually turned into a museum, catalogued and open to the public. I recently found out that as we move to electronic media, many people are throwing out their handwritten recipe cards or worse, as items are sold at estate sales, the recipes are usually either sold to a recipe box collector (who often throws out most of the recipes) or are thrown out all together. These handwritten books and cards are a precious part of our history. I would love to let you know more about what I'm doing and would be delighted if anyone wished to donate this sort of thing or I would also be happy to let you know how you can go about preserving handwritten recipe cards and books in your own communities. These will often these get lumped in with books when secondhand bookstores buy lots of books at estate sales and are then discarded by the bookstore.
I understand that as lovers of cooking, recipe cards are precious, full of memories of friends, family, and fellowship around a table. Unfortunately there is a large number of Americans who do not see the recipe cards and books that way. Help me preserve what we have left OR start collecting them yourself. I can help you set up a method to catalogue them by food, region, year, and that sort of thing.
just send me an instant message.

I have given Michelle23 permission to post this messages. I plan to send her some recipe cards that I have had for a number of years toward her project. ] Nancn
