Here are a bunch of variations on everyone's favorite campfire treat.
The name derives from the countless scores of Girl Scouts (and more
than a few Boy Scouts) who have asked for "s'more" whenever these
gooey goodies are prepared. For the benefit of those who have never
savored the original, I have included a recipe for it as well.
S'mores
Chocolate bars
Graham crackers*
Marshmallows toasted over an open fire
* Graham crackers are sweet, flat, rectangular whole-wheat crackers.
Any sweet cracker or cooky (biscuit) may be substituted.
Place a piece of chocolate on a graham cracker. Place a hot toasted
marshmallow on top of the chocolate, and top with another graham
cracker.
Some More S'mores
Viennese S'mores - Use cinnamon-sugar graham crackers
S'mores a la Menthe - Add a fresh mint leaf or two
Jelly S'mores - Spread some jam, jelly, or marmalade of your choice on
the graham cracker before adding the chocolate bar
Tin Roof S'mores - Spread crunchy peanut butter on the graham cracker
before adding the chocolate bar
Mocha S'mores - Add a sprinkle of instant coffee powder on top of the
marshmallows
German Chocolate S'mores - Sprinkle sweetened coconut flakes over the
marshmallows
Crispy S'mores - Roll the hot marshmallow in puffed rice breakfast
cereal
Parisian S'mores - Add a strip of candied orange or lemon peel
Holiday S'mores - Roll the hot marshmallow in crushed peppermint candy
Ginger S'mores - Add a little chopped candied ginger
Nutty S'mores - Add chopped almonds or nut of your choice, or use
chocolate bars with almonds
Ghostly S'mores - Use white chocolate bars
