Beets White vinegar, if desired
Cut off all but 1 inch of beet tops. Wash beets; leave whole with root ends attached. Cook as desired below:
Cooking Guide for Beets To Boil: Heat 6 cups water plus 1 tablespoon vinegar and salt (if desired) for 5 medium beets to boiling. Add beets. Boil 40 to 50 minutes or until tender; drain.
To Microwave: Place beets in microwavable casserole. Add 1/2 cup water. Microwave on high 18 to 25 minutes.
To Steam: Place steamer basket in 1/2 inch water in saucepan (water should not touch bottom of basket). Add beets. Cover tightly and heat to boiling; reduce heat to low. Steam 45 to 50 minutes or until tender. Add boiling water during steaming if necessary.
