4 oz (225 g) Italian sausage, casing removed 1 small onion, finely chopped 2-3 cloves garlic, finely chopped 1 jar (28 oz, 790 g) meatless spaghetti sauce 1 cup (250 ml) sliced mushrooms 3/4 cup (180 ml) chopped pepperoni 1 tsp (5 ml) dried oregano 1/2 cup (125 ml) sliced black olives (optional)
Combine the sausage meat, onion, and garlic in a skillet over moderate heat and saute until the meat is browned, about 5 minutes. Drain off the fat and combine the meat mixture with the remaining ingredients in the slow cooker. Stir in the remaining ingredients and cook on low heat for 3 hours. Serve with slices of focaccia, Italian bread, or pita toast triangles. Serves 7 to 12.
