Hello All - Have you notice I never call a British product an English whatever, it can be quite annoying when people talk about England as if it is the only country in the UK, we are all united by a common language, so why can't we understand one another most of the time? The powers that be seem to be getting it better as they used to talk about our Scottish athletes as being English, they should have either called them British or Scottish, but that has improved in the last few years. I don't like it when we are in another country and people ask are you English? even English people ask us if we are English. Our reply is and always has been, No we are Scottish, but we do speak English etc. So the best way to ask an English speaking person is "Are you British?" That way the Welsh, Irish and Scottish can't take offence.
Many years when we were driving in Italy we noticed this man with a white stick waving his stick and shouting at us, we automatically thought yuk, one-way street, but it was because our car had a GB plate on the front and an Ecosse badge on the back, we stopped in front of him where he noticed the Scottish badge and he was so apologetic. I'm not too sure why he didn't like the English, but presumed from his actions it was a wartime thing. He obviously wasn't completely blind.
One final thing on this subject the Scots or Scottish People don't like to be called Scotch. Only pies, whisky, tape (sellotape) and some other hand-made products are called Scotch. My rant is over for the day So I'll close now and look forward to hearing from someone soon, it could even be on taking offence about things that people say and do in your Country. Did you know that in Arabia they are pleased when they cook for you and you burp when or after eating with them?
Best wishes
