Hi Sue, I'm not too sure what an Oreo cookie is - I have to work this out your biscuits are our dip type (i.e. Miss Maddie's) and your cookies are our biscuits, usually crisp, good for dunking in tea. There is an advert on our tellies at the moment which depicts a young boy and his dog and he is showing his dog how to eat a two tier biscuit with cream in the middle and chocolate on the top, i.e. you twist and separate and lick then put them back together and dip in your milk, it's quite amusing, he then tells his dog that his Mum says dogs aren't allowed biscuits so he will just have to eat his as well. Long story just to tell you that I think they may be called Oreos and no I haven't tried them and certainly not deep fried. Would you recommend them, and if so what score out of 10? Please bear in mind that I'm not as mobile as I used to be and take longer to burn the calories off

Hi Sylvia: That advert ("commercial for us") sounds like the Oreo cookie (biscuit) Two chocolate wafers with with cream centers. Our commercials make a big deal over twisting them apart and dunking in a glass of cold milk. In fact it is quite a treat! It become quite popular in our state fair to dip them in a batter and deep fry them in hot oil. Some people even batter and fry dill pickle strips (not my favorite!). My DH and youngest son enjoy the milk & cookies a couple of times per week. I however, can enjoy the milk and one (!) cookie only! My DH & son rate the Oreos as a "10" and the deep fried ones as an "7" ....I like them but have to watch "fried" foods. Isn't is funny how words can take on different meanings across the "big pond"!!!

Hi Sue in NC
What's the weather like in North Carolina at the moment? Are you having a bumper harvest from the garden this year?
Re. the Oreo advert, it makes me smile, he is such a sweet kid, but then when he tells his gorgeous wee dog that he can't have any - it makes me feel angry with the lad for tormenting the dog. And yes I am aware just how much damage treats, particularly chocolate ones can do to your pet's health. Just lets you see how adverts can affect you. I have seen the advert, but the product doesn't seem to have reached the rural areas yet. I have to say our nearest Co-op's Manager John is pretty good, when I ask him if he can get a particular product in it is usually on the shelves within a couple of weeks, if I can find him!
Every time I go past a particular shelf I have to chortle - for a good six months after surgery I had a bit of a bowel problem and having tried every solitary remedy under the sun, was advised to try natural liquorice. I asked John to get the real McCoy which he did - I now no longer need the liquorice, but the shelf is full to overflowing. The poor chap probably runs and hides whenever he sees me and my walking aid toddling in through the shop doors. At least I have cheered myself up for now.
Does anyone know how to make use of the smilies?

;D Hi Sylvia: North Carolina is HOT and HUMID...typical weather for us this time of year. We have a large tropical storm off the coast of the southeastern states and NC is one of them - so we are have thunderstorms along the coast line...and inland (my area) is gettng some rain...which is wonderful for the local gardens. Lots of watermelons and sweet corn and tomatoes are being harvested now. I actually had a watermelon milk shake last night. My first..but not my last! Was so delicious...and fattening! Going to my mom's tomorrow - can't wait to see her...she is doing so much better! TTYL

Hi Sue
As we seem to have strayed from the Post name of "Scotland's second National Dish not!" it may be a good idea to start a new post. As we all seem to be experiencing strange weather and it is the one element that affects everyone's life - "Weather where you are" seems appropriate.
Regards to your Mom - great to hear she is doing well.
