Don't let the longish list of ingredients put you off trying this, most of the ingredients are store cupboard ingredients.
Our cuts of meat seem to have different names. As this is done in the slow cooker, there is no need to use an expensive piece of meat.
Beef Stroganoff
Serves 6 or 7
1 1/2 to 2 lbs/700g to 900g of round steak 1/2 tsp salt 1/8 tsp pepper 1 onion, sliced 1/4 tsp garlic salt 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce 1/2 tsp paprika 1 x 10 1/2 oz can condensed beef broth 1 Tbsp ketchup 2 Tbsp dry red wine 1/4 lb fresh mushrooms, sliced 3 Tbs cornstarch 1/4 cup water 1 cup sour cream 1 Tbsp fresh parsley, chopped Cooked rice or noodles to serve
Cut steak into 1/4 inch strips. Season with salt and pepper. Place steak and onion in a slow cooker. Mix garlic salt, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, broth and ketchup in a bowl. Pour mixture over steak. Cover and cook on Low 6 to 7 hours or until steak is tender. Turn control to High. Add wine and mushrooms. Dissolve cornstarch in water in a small bowl. Add to meat mixture, stirring until blended. Cover and cook on High for 15 minutes of until slightly thickened. Stir in sour cream; turn off heat.
Serve with rice or noodles, sprinkle with parsley and serve.
