Milk Loaf
About 10 slices
7 fl oz/200ml milk, at room temperature 3 1/2 fl oz/100ml water at room temperature 1 lb/450g strong plain white flour 1 1/2 tsp salt 2 tsp granulated sugar 1 oz/25g butter, diced 1 tsp fast-action dried yeast
Add the ingredients to the bread pan in the order given in your machine instruction booklet. Remember to place sugar, salt and butter in separate corners and the yeast in the middle.
Close the lid, set the machine to Basic White/Normal setting, select size and type of crust and press start.
Once baked, remove from the bread pan and turn out onto a wire rack to cool.

Hi Sandy,
Good to hear from you.
After all the great recipes you have shared, I hope you do try the Milk Loaf and enjoy it.
Have you tried Bill from Aberdeen's sour dough starter? I highly recommend it.

Sorry this has taken so long, I did try the milk loaf and it is excellent. I haven't tried the sour dough starter. I have tried several different recipes for sour dough and have had trouble with every one of them so guess I am kind of gun shy. Someday when I get my nerve up I will have to try one more time.

Hi Sandy,
I'm glad you enjoyed the Milk Loaf. I hope you are well??
Just like you, I had awful results from previous sour dough breads.
We had excellent sour dough bread (my first) in a really popular seafood restaurant in San Francisco and the baskets of bread went so quick. We were in a party of 12 and of course as soon as the baskets arrived, they were emptied almost immediately. I have tried on many occasions to replicate that bread without success, until I tried Bill's sour dough starter and it was sooo good, I'm going to stick to this one.
Reminiscing about that meal, one of the Scotsmen in our company had ordered a chowder soup - turned out he had ordered a clear chowder*. Poor Duncan, his face was a picture as he looked around at all our starters, but nobody volunteered to swap. At least he had a good share of the sour dough bread. Just one of those things, we all at one time or another have made a wrong menu choice.

*Clear soup isn't exactly what Scotsmen eat!!
