Hi NancyAnn, my name is Joan. I have been on the Atkins diet now for 5 weeks. Over the years I have tried every diet known and failed them all. I already know that with this diet it is a keeper. I have my need for junk foods controlled. Oh I still get a sweet tooth once in a while but I can easily control it. I have learned from the Atkins book and a few other websites. If you are still interested in a diet pal let me know. I'll be glad to help. Joan

Hi Nancy, First let me ask if you have bought the paper back book from Atkins? If not please do. Not everyone turns purple ( + for ketones) but they still lose wt. In the book they tell ppl not to be obessed with those strips. To be honest with you I don't own a scale and I didn't measure before starting. Most in fact because I didn't really believe this diet would work. BUT it has I have read and read and visited other low carb websites for ideas and I feel great. I need to buy new clothes and this will be the start of my 6th wk. coming up. I can't be obsessed with numbers. I go by how I feel. One time I used the sticks and it was very light. I don't care what color it is because the diet is working for me. The cooking is much easier now. It took me a good 2 wks to really get a handle on the meals/snacks. Now it's second hand. Just take one day at a time. Take your time reading the book....ONLY the induction chapters for now don't worry about the rest of the book. One step at a time. You can do it! Joan

Hi Joan... Well, i am one of those people who want everything yesterday.. I have lost 6#'s in one week... I have the book and keep reading differant things over and over...I have been using a lot of sweetener and i just read Saturday to not use any sweetener with Aspartame in it... Mine all had that in them...Just maybe i will really get it all 100% right on of these days.. I have a good 50#'s to lose and i really want it off the closer we get to spring.. I have a lot of smaller clothes i have been saving and i really am serious about getting in to them by June at least....I have stayed on this diet faithfully for the week i have been on it this time.. Before i have tasted, oh say a taste of a desert, for example and i now know that will hold you back and is a no-no.....Can you give me a brief example of what you three meals for a day would be.. I love eggs and meat and lettuce and fresh vegetables, so as far as meals for me it is really easy.. In the past i would never go for more that 2 weeks on this diet and if i did not like the result i would quit...Also, i was on Premarin and i went off that this time...So i will and i am doing as you said.."One day at a time"....Well, let you go now and have a good day and happy eating... Nancy...

Hi Nancy, I forgot to mention that medications will most likely interfere with the diet BUT don't stop any until you discuss your concerns with your Dr. Second Splenda is the only sweetner that Atkins endorses. Also don't buy any of the low carb candy bars while on induction. The alcohol sugars although they don't "count" do interfer with the changing of your metabolism that is occuring during induction. I personally am still on induction and plan to be for at least 6 months in which I will then review how I'm doing. Some ppl just count those 2 weeks then go perhaps move on too fast. I say you have got to go by how you feel.
Exercise and do make sure you are drinking plenty of water all day long. Carbonated water doesn't flush the kidneys of wastes as well as reg. water so do keep that in mind.
Also caffeine nix that completely too.
My usual meals consist of menus that I have gotten from the atkinsfriends list. Like today I had a scrambled 3 eggs, and cheddar cheese, with mushrooms and onions and bacon, very lg. glass of water, and cup of green tea. Lunch I had left over turkey breast slices with mayo, and tossed salad with Ranch drsg. and Crystal light. Dinner I made MockAPhony and cheese (LOVE this one!!), hotdogs, and low carb coleslaw (tastes just like KCF!!). Snack tonight pumpkin squares with whipped cream and cup of green tea.
For my husband who is also on this diet once a week I make in a 13X9 pan scramble 10 eggs, 1/2 &1/2, any kind of cheese, mushrooms, onions and either bacon, sausage or ham. Bake at 350 for 45 min. cut into 5 pcs. He reheats it when he's at work. Hope this helps. Do check out that website though it's great for more ideas. TTYL Joan

Hi Joan... Well i got on the scales this AM and i lost 2 #'s. Such a great feeling and when that happens i just know i will not go off of it... I went to get my hair cut at noon and they of the beauticians are on the diet... They are all doing really great...WHere did you go to find those recipies? ? I think this diet is really extra easy to follow...I put together 4 easter baskets today, because i have to mail them and the mail is so darn slow plus i wanted to see how much more candy and stuff i needed.. Was so proud i did not even take one little piece...I know i am the type that one little piece will send me on one of my eatting binges....Where food is concerned, i have very little will power...I am not doing any exercises yet...I keep telling myself as soon as the weather gets really nice, but i am really just to lazy..Maybe next week i will start...We are in the country but on a very busy highway and my husband does not want me walking on it so i do have quite a bit of stuff in the house that i bought for exercise and, of course, have not used... As the scales go down it become more and more excited and so i will start next week...Let me know where i can go to find some ideas for recipies... Thanks Joan.... take care and be good...Nancy

Hi Nancy, I'm so happy for you with the 2 lbs. Hey it's a start BUT please don't get too hung up on that mechanical device. So many factors can move that needle up or down. I get those receipes and great ideas from www.atkinsfriends.com there is another site but I have to get that addy for you. I don't know if you like the soy based mixes or not, I don't and came across a flour mix that uses almond flour. This is equivelent to the Atkins baking mix. You would use this in receipes calling for the baking mix. I got that from the above email addy. Just thought I'd tell you that such a thing does exist. I can't wait to try it out for pancakes/waffles! As far as exercising goes I'm terrible about that. I do do alot of walking between chores and work. I have a HealthRider that I do love. But I hurt my ankle/foot and everytime I try using it my foot kills me. I did alot of snowmobiling this winter and bulling the sled around for 120+ mile trips is quite a workout! Soon I will be biking and kayaking (1st yr. for this). Now I need to work on my water intake! LOL Keep up the great work. I promise it gets better after the 2nd week so hang in there!!!!! TTYL Joan

Hi Joan... I have not found the flour that they mention in the book, but i will look for the soy when i get near a health food store.. I live in a little town and all they have here is a Walmart and a Krogers... Not much else...What state are you in... I moved here from Michigan almost 3 years ago and i did a lot of outdoor stuff like hunting and fishing but not here... My husband retired last June so he take care of the outdoors....I will log onto that address i got from you.... There was a front page article in today paper that talked about the Atkins diet and how so many people are on it and they are all having great results...What the heck is Mockaphony???.. I would have to say my husband is a picky eater so i told him while i diet he will have to make his own meals, unless i am making something i know he will eat.. Today i cooked sourkraut and spareribs and i alway, in the past, put brown sugar into it to sweeten it.. He really likes that... I tried with artifical sweetener but did not do the trick..So i took a big bowl out for me ( a couple meals worth) and i put the brown sugar into his...so make a lot and then he can have his the way he likes it and i will have mine the way i have to eat it...I am being so good i can't believe it is me...will catch you liter...:-)....Nancy

Nancy it does sound like you are behaving LOL. Seriously good for you!!!! You go girl!! You can order a lot of things esp. the almond flour through www.netrition.com. I put an order in with them Fri. night and got the pkg Mon. afternoon. No matter how much you order all shipping is $4.95 UPS. Below are the 2 web sites that I have mentioned to you and they have links to also order low carb foods/supplies from so do check them out. In addition to the sites they have quite abit of research and ideas/receipes. I can spend alot of time on both of them. www.lowcarb.ca/pub96.ezboard.com/blowcarbbuddies I hope you get the info. you need from them. MockAPhony is (and does taste like) Macaroni and Cheese. LOL Hubby says it's a "keeper". I'm lucky because he has so far liked everything I have made. TTYL Joan PS any idea on what happend to Voyager who wanted info on this low carb diet?
