These pretzels are really really great, it takes some time before you atually get to eat them, but it is well worth it.
Enjoy! ;D
Auntie Anne’s Pretzels
1 ¼ cup warm water
1 tablespoon + ¼ teaspoon yeast
3 ¾ cups all purpose flour
¾ cup + 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 ½ teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
Pretzel Bath
4 cups warm water
½ cup baking soda
¼ cup butter
Cinnamon Topping
½ cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Let sit for a few minutes.
Combine flour, powdered sugar, and salt in large mixing bowl. Add water with yeast and vegetable oil. Stir with a spoon at first, then use your hands to form a ball with the dough. Knead for 5 minutes on lightly floured surface. The dough should now be nice and smooth. Place dough into a lightly oiled bowl. Cover and store in a warm place for about 45 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
When dough is done rising, preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Make a bath for the pretzels by combining the baking soda with the warm water, and stir until the baking soda is mostly dissolved.
Remove dough from bowl, and divide into 8 even portions. Roll each portion on a flat non floured surface, and shape as desired ; Dip pretzel into bath solution. Place each pretzel on paper towels to get off excess liquid.
Arrange pretzels on baking sheet (sprayed with cooking spray).
**NOTE** if you would like salt on the pretzel, add it now. If you will be using the cinnamon sugar mixture, wait.
Bake pretzels for 4 minutes, turn pan halfway around, and bake for an additional 4-5 minutes (or until pretzels are golden brown)
Remove pretzels from oven, and cool for a couple minutes.
Mix the cinnamon and sugar in a small dish.
Brush melted butter onto pretzels (lots of it) ; sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.
Enjoy! ;D
