I am looking for a recipe for "mango spread" which is actually a spread made with red and green peppers....not the mango fruit! My grandmother used to make this spread and the family has always called it mango spread. It has ground peppers, a little flour, onions, and a little mustard in it. It was cooked and then canned with a thin layer of sealing wax on the top.
I'm hoping someone will recognize this spread and be willing to share the recipe with me.
Thanks,
Dutchboy

Hi Dutchboy, Welcome to Nancy's Kitchen. I wondered if this is similar to the recipe you had in mind? Sandwich Spread 14 medium cucumbers 14 onions 3 red peppers 3 green peppers 1 cup vinegar Grind and add 3/4 cup salt; let stand overnight. Drain the next morning and add the 1 cup vinegar. Then heat to scald through. Now take the following ingredients and boil until thick and smooth: 4 well beaten eggs 1/2 pound butter 3 tbsp. flour 1 cup vinegar 3/4 cup sugar 1 tsp. dry mustard After it is thick, add: 1 cup sweet cream 1 tsp. celery seed 1 tsp. mustard seed Pour over the vegetables; mix and heat through. Allow to boil for a few minutes. Pour into jars and seal. Makes about 10 pints. This recipe was found at: dreampharm.com/food/enjoyable-food-recipes.1199.html -Shortcake
