1 cup chopped onion 1 clove garlic, minced 2 tablespoons olive or salad oil 2 8 ounce cans tomato sauce 1 6 ounce can chopped mushrooms, undrained 3 tablespoons snipped parsley 1 tablespoon sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon dried basil, crushed
Cook onion and garlic in hot oil till tender but not brown. Add tomato sauce, mushrooms with liquid, parsley, sugar, salt, and basil; mix together thoroughly.
Simmer uncovered about 45 minutes or till of desired consistency. Serve over hot spaghetti or other pasta. Pass grated Parmesan cheese to sprinkle atop.
Serves 4 to 6.
