Thank you Sylvia for this link. Last year I was doing a little bit of searching. More for my husband's family than mine(I have more info on the Russells and Hinkles than on my grandmother (Lydia Conal?)unsure of the spelling). Thats when I found rampantscotland.com. Very imformative site. But I am definetely going to bookmark this link for future reference when I have a little more time to dig. From what I can tell here in the states, scots blood is abundant.

Hi Bshem great to hear from you again. It is a good site. Ron my DH has been researching his family tree for more years than I can or even care to remember. When I came across this site I thought it's probably no use to him as I know that he has gone back farther than most. I emailed the site link to him and would you believe for £5 he got a copy of a will from one of his way way back ancestors and has led him on to a branch of his family that he couldn't find. So I deserved a pat on the back.
As for Conal, not a familiar name in Scotland - try Connell or O'Connell or try variations on one less n or one less l. If you have even one date be it DOB, wedding, or death, you will be amazed what you can find.
Good luck and keep in touch let me know how you get on when you find that elusive time that we are all searching for.

Hi Sylvia,
My grandfather was a twin. His name was Leo Ross, and his twin was Lee Ross. I am trying to get more info to see where and how far we go back. My mother is gone and my aunts are elderly. They would be the only ones who could help me. I am trying to find out if there are any names that I can go on. You have piqued my curiosity!

Good morning Chris,
If you are serious about searching your family tree, please be prepared for joy, excitement and disappointments. Determination is definitely the key to any search.
I warn you now that we all have terrible problems with the fact that our ancestors always repeated the same names. Your search will be made even more difficult by your granddad having a twin with not only the same surname obviously, but the christian names are so similar - Lee and Leo oh dear! If it had been twin grandmothers at least their names would have changed if they had married.
I know lots of folks who have started their search and gave up when the going got tough. Whereas Ron has been searching his for years and only yesterday spent 10am to 1pm in our local library. If you are fortunate your local librarian will be into genealogy and will help and advise you. If you have any of your parents birth certificates, marriage certificates or even death certificates they are a great place to start.
If you haven't already read Debbie's Corner board have a look, there are some good tips on it.
Finally, let me know how you are getting on with it. If you do get stuck and don't know which direction to go in, Ron with his past experience may be able to point you in the right direction.
Good luck
