1/2 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 2 eggs separated yolks from whites 2 squares chocolate 1 1/2 cups cake flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon vanilla flavoring 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 cup milk
Cream shortening and sugar together. Add the 2 well beaten egg yolks. Melt the chocolate over hot water, then add to the creamed sugar-shortening mix. --Mix thoroughly. Sift flour, then measure and resift with the baking powder and salt, then add alternately with milk to the chocolate mixture. Add flavoring. Fold in the 2 egg whites that have been beaten stiffly. Bake as directed on a hot waffle iron. HINT#--can be served with syrup, whipped cream and strawbwrries, or ice cream.
