4th of July Lemonade (Circa 1900)
This is the lemonade that appeared at 4th of July picnics in the park or pasture at the turn of the century. Wonderfully tart, it was kept icy cold by blocks of ice floating in a 30 gallon crock.
15-18 lemons Sugar Water
Microwave the lemons for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes (This is an updated the recipe to make the squeezing easier) Squeeze lemons to make 3 C. juice Syrup: Boil together 1 C. water and 1 1/2 C. sugar Mix lemon juice, syrup, and 5 C. water Makes 2 quarts; serve over ice
