Thought this was an important warning that came in one of my medical alert newsletters for all of us to read! PINE OIL CLEANERS CAUSE ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE A study found in the journal Applied and Environmental Microbiology says common household pine oil cleaners are linked to antibiotic resistance. Bacteria that once were eliminated with the swipe of a rag build immunity to the disinfectant and continue to thrive. Researchers from Midwestern University in Illinois, Curtin University of Technology in Australia, and Illinois State University say when these Staphylococcus aureus bacteria become resistant to pine oil cleaners they also become resistant to the antibiotics vancomycin and oxacillin. Further testing suggests the same genetic mechanism is responsible for both types of resistance. Always My Best, Baking Bud

YEP, sad to say my friend, but I'd be looking at some other cleaners. I gave up any with that pine smell a LONG time ago, due to my dog's epilepsy. Strong smells like that aren't good for an epileptic pet. And I found this warning for bird owners: Pine-scented items: It has become more and more well known that pine-scented cleaners and other pine-scented substances are toxic to birds. A woman was taking her two thingyatiels to the vet in her car. It was a 1-hour drive. The birds were not sick, they were just going in for a normal check-up. Upon arriving at the vet, the birds were clearly very ill. They both died about an hour later and necroscopy revealed hemorrhaging in the lungs. The woman reported that she had two pine-scented air fresheners hanging from her rearview mirror in the car. SCARY sometimes what we don't know about products! So many are cancer causing too, and we just go on merrily using them as no one puts out an alert to warn us! I am a BUG about lawn chemicals and our pets! If you read one of those bags, it is a walking chemical bag of toxins! Then your kids roll on it, and your dogs and cats do too, inhailing it and WORSE! Gets on the pets paws, and in they come to lick them. I will not use chemicals to kill off the weeds etc, so guess WHO my husband makes pull all of those darn things! YEP. ME! But it is better than the alternative! If you really quiz your local nurseries they all know too the dangers, but does anyone ever ask us if we have pets or kids? Or tell us if we do use it, how to more safely at least try to protect them? No. Hey, good old vinegar and water does a fine job on glass stuff and floors! Just stinks a bit! Sleep Well!
