When your recipe calls for 1 tsp allspice - you can use 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1 tsp ground cloves. Baste means to put drippings, butter or marinade over food while cooking. Usually meats or vegetables. This can be done with a spoon, basting brush, suction squirter. When adding an egg to a hot liquid, beat the egg in a little dish first, then add just a little of the hot liquid to the egg and stir in. Then add the egg mixture into the pan. To bring butter or margarine to room temperature quickly, use a grater to shred it into your mixing bowl.
