Eggless, Milkless, Butterless Cake
6 C Raisins 1 tsp Lemon Extract 1 C Water 1 tsp Cloves 1/2 C Shortening 1 tsp Cinnamon 1 C Sugar Pinch of Salt 2 C Flour 1 tsp Baking Soda
Combine all but flour and baking soda. Boil the ingredients for 5 minutes. When cool add flour and baking soda. Mix well and pour into cake pan. Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees.

This comes down to me from my Mom who died 12 years ago. This is one of her recipes from back at the time of WWII. At that time she already had 8 children and I was born in 1943. Money was tight and so were supplies. Dad was a farmer so that did help a lot.
