1 tablespoon butter 3 cups milk 1 tablespoon all purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 dash pepper 1 dash cayenne 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese 1/2 pound elbow macaroni, cooked, drained 1/2 cup canned tomatoes, drained, chopped 1 teaspoon sugar
Preheat oven to 350F.
Melt butter; whisk in flour, then add milk, salt, and pepper and cayenne. Stir until thick and smooth, 8 to 10 minutes. Add cheese and cook until it melts. Remove from heat.
Combine macaroni and sauce in mixing bowl. Stir in tomatoes and sugar. Put in baking dish. Bake till brown 30-40 minutes.
