Hello and welcome Chris! Below is the recipe in question: Creamy Chicken Casserole www.aliciasrecipes.com/chicken-recipes/creamy-chicken-casserole-recipe.htm8 breasts (boneless) 8 slices Swiss cheese 8 slices ham 1 c. cream of chicken soup 1/4 c. water 2 c. seasoned croutons (crushed) 1/2 c. melted butter Place cheese and ham on chicken. Pour soup and water. Mix over top. Sprinkle croutons. Bake 50-55 minutes at 350 degrees. Chris, I would mix the melted butter with the crushed croutons before sprinkling on top of the casserole. That sounds most likely. Let us know how it turned out! Good luck! Chris in NM

Yes I agree with Chris. The croutons are to be crushed and the melted butter mixed in and then stirred up to make a crumb topping. If you do not have seasoned croutons, you can use plain ones and add in seasoned salt, garlic powder and pepper all to taste. Lynn

I agree with Chris that butter should be on croutons but to me it seems an unnecessary addition of fat and calories. I don't think it needs a topping but if you really felt it was neccessary how about some bread crumbs sprinkled on top and a tbsp butter drizzled over top?
