Hi Nancy
I have recieved your newsletter for about 1 year and finally decided to get in on the forums. I am wanting to know if anyone has a very old purity foods cookbook with a hard dark blue cover which contains some awesome recipes. My Mom & I used to make the dark fruitcake recipe which contained grape juice. I have gone on several websites to find but they are not the same. Please help me find this recipe as it is almost time to make them. I really enjoy your newsletters and I get some really good ideas from the people who post on your website. Hope all is well with you and your munckins. beverlyb in Surrey BC Canada

Hello BeverlyB I have the New Purity Cook Book last published in 1967. There is a Christmas cake in there and I can send it to you . The only sub I would make is to change the apple juice to grape juice. My mother used to have the one you are refering to and she said the Christmas Cakes have not changed much at all just using apple juice now instead of the grape juice.

I have a 1932 Purity Flour cookbook, there is a dark fruitcake in it, but it is called "Christmas Cake", it calls for 1/2 cup grape or other fruit juice as well as brandy or cider. Would this be the one you are looking for. I also have a Purity Flour cookbook from 1956 This one is a "Rich Dark Fruit Cake" it calls for 1/2 cup fruit juice or red currant jelly. I also have my grandmother's recipe for Dark Fruit Cake or Wedding cake from the 1800's at my website it calls for grape juice or brandy, but I usually use homemade wine. If any of these are the correct one, let me know and I will post it for you. either here or at Nancy's newsletter. Betty in Northern Ontario, Canada
