I found this in an old (1960's version) of an Eastern Star cookbook given to me in the mid-sixties. It was listed under potatoes as a side dish. Hope this might be close to what you are looking for, June. Chris Dutch Lettuce 1 head lettuce 2 hard-cooked eggs, chopped 2 small onions, chopped 1/2 c. diced cooked bacon 1/3 c. vinegar 1 tbl. sugar 1 tsp. salt bacon drippings 4 potatoes, boiled Let lettuce leaves stand in cold water for 1 hour or more; drain well. Alternate layers of lettuce, bacon, eggs, onions and mashed potatoes in dish. Add vinegar, sugar and salt to bacon fat. Heat to boiling point. Pour over layers and serve hot. Serves 8
