This is a sauce that I found in a magazine many, many years ago and used to use when my lads were young, it's great on the top of your favourite ice cream (finely chopped fruit in the ice cream is never commented on).
Decadent Toffee Sauce (Government Warning should apply)
You will need:
4 ozs of unsalted butter 6 ozs of brown sugar 4 ozs of caster sugar (A little finer sugar than granulated) 10 ozs of golden syrup An 8 fl oz of single cream 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract
Place all of the above in a saucepan and bring gently to the boil and boil for 4 maybe 5 minutes, the sauce should become smooth, remember to stir regularly.
DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT POP YOUR PINKIE IN TO TASTE you have been warned.
This toffee sauce is superb and will keep for months in a covered container in the fridge.
Just drizzle over your favourite desert i.e bananas, ice cream, spotted dog, strawberries or on the top of a knickerbocker glory followed by a sprinklling of chopped nuts.
