Hazelnut and Chocolate Squares
Preheat your oven to 180oC/350oF You will get 8 - 12
2 Eggs 12 oz soft dark brown sugar 1 tsp vanilla extract 5 oz of melted and cooled butter 9 oz SR Flour 4 oz chocolate cut into small bits (the better the chocolate, the better the squares) 4 oz hazelnuts, roasted, skinned and roughly chopped (fiddly, but I think you may be able to buy roasted and skinned now) Icing sugar for dusting (Confectioners Sugar)
Grease an 8” square baking sheet Whisk the eggs, sugar and vanilla together until pale and thick then add the cooled butter and fold in then fold in the flour gently with the chocolate and three quarters of the nuts. Pile into the baking sheet and spread flat, sprinkle over the remaining nuts and bake for 25 - 30 minutes. Leave to cool before removing from the baking sheet. Dust lightly with the sugar and cut into squares.
If they last these squares taste even better the following day.
