Hi Sable8020 and welcome to Nancy's message boards.
1 Cup of Icing/Confectioner's/powdered sugar weighs 5ozs/144g so if you use 3 cups and 1tbsp of icing sugar it should weigh 1 lb.
The only way that I could work this out accurately was to physically find the imperial weight of 1 cup of icing sugar.
My DH thought the kitchen was becoming a laboratory again.
Hope this helps.

Hi Chris,
nice to hear from you, hope you and Bob are well and all prepared for the festive season. I thought I was, but..........
I did do the physical thing with my cup measurement, much to the DH's merriment. My cup must be the wrong size ;D
Don't know how I've had success with all my previous USA recipes?

Merry Christmas Sylvia! Well, I don't know. Guess you are just a very lucky lady! Anyway, wet and dry measurements measure differently. Sometimes I have been very unlucky is transforming one recipe to another. We all know that US measurements are not the best! There was talk when I was younger - many moons ago - about changing to Imperial. Not so yet. Anyway, I printed this and go by it. Good luck! Does this help Sylvia?
Chris
PS I am as baffled as you about all the different measurements! LOL
