Swiss Steak This is an easy but delicious meal.It's an old familiar thing. Remember the first T.V. dinners.
1 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. allspice 1/4 tsp. pepper 2 lbs. round steak, about one inch thick 1/3 cuo all-purpose flour 3 tbsp. shortening or vegetable oil 1 medium onion 3 cups peeled, chopped tomatoes, fresh or canned 1. Rub salt, allspice and pepper into steak on both sides. Dredge steak with flour on both sides.Pound in flour with edge of plate, turning meat and pounding each side and adding more flour until all is pounded in. 2. Heat shortening in heavy frying pan and brown meat quickly in hot fat om both sides. add onion and tomatoes. Cover and cook over low heat, keeping the meat just at simmering point until it is tender. 3. Check occasionally for moisture, adding a little hot water, beef bouillon or tomato juice to keep from sticking.Added liquid must be hot. Serve with mashed potatoes.
