Apple Walnut Squares
2 c. flour 2 c. firmly packed brown sugar 1/2 c. softened butter, (1 stick) 1 c. powdered or finely chopped walnuts 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. salt 1 egg 1 c. sour cream 1 tsp. vanilla 2 c. finely chopped apples (2- lg.)
Preheat over to 350. Lightly grease a 9x13" baking pan. Combine the flour, brown sugar and butter together in a medium bowl. Mix until finely crumbled. Stir in the nuts. Press 2 c. of the mixture into the bottom of the baking pan. Add the cinnamon, baking soda and salt to the remaining mix and blend well. Beat in the egg, sour cream and vanilla. Gently stir in the apples and spoon evenly into the pan. Bake for 35 - 40 minutes, or until a tester comes out clean. Let cool completely in pan. Cut into squares. Top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
