Made this tonight and it came out really nice. You don't even need any frosting! Almost tastes like a sweet piece of soft cornbread.
Applesauce Cake
1 pkg. 2-layer size yellow cake mix 3 egg whites (I used 2 containers of egg beaters) 1/3 cup applesauce 1 Tbsp. flour 1-1/4 cups water 1 banana, mashed finely
* Hold back a titch of the yellow cake mix to use for flouring your pan instead of regular flour.
Directions: Spray desired pan with cooking spray (I used Pam butter flavor) and flour with the titch of cake mix. Prepare cake according to package directions except, add 1 tablespoon of flour to the dry mix and blend well. Substitute an equal amount of Natural Apple Sauce for the vegetable oil, and substitute an equal number of egg whites (or egg beaters) for whole eggs. Add the mashed banana. Pour into pans and bake according to package directions. Frost cake if desired. 16 Servings.
Overall, you'll save 750 calories and 86 grams of fat using applesauce instead of oil.
