1/2 cup shortning 2 cups sugar 2 eggs 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour 1 1/2 teaspoons soda 2 cups drained sour cherries(but save the juice for the sauce.
Cream shortning and sugar together---add eggs---beat well---add flour slowly. Add the soda to the cherries--they will turn dark, then add them to the batter.---fold in the nuts, and bake in 9X13 pan at 325, till done---serve with the following sauce: Using the 3/4 cup of the saved drained cherry juice---add 1/4 cup water, sugar to taste, and 1 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch. Cook till thick--then cool--Top with whipped cream.
