1 9-inch deep dish frozen pie shell 1 lb lean ground beef 1/4 c chopped onion 1 t salt 1/2 t black pepper 1/4 t garlic powder 1 T chili powder 1/2 c sliced fresh mushrooms 1 c grated Cheddar cheese 2 eggs 1 sml can evaporated milk (5 oz) 2 t minced jalapeno peppers (optional)
You can make your own pie crust if you wish. That's what our mothers did. But if your genes have been altered you probably won't, in which case you should let that frozen crust sit at room temperature for 10 minutes. Then prick the bottom and sides with a fork, and bake in a preheated, 400-degree oven for 5 minutes. Remove crust and let cool. In a skillet brown the meat and onion. Pour off any fat. Add to the pan the salt, pepper, garlic powder, chili powder and if you want to make things more interesting toss in the jalapeno peppers, or more if your internal thermometer can handle it. When the meat mixture has cooled, spoon it into the crust. Distribute the mushroom slices over the top. Scatter with the cheese. Beat together the eggs and milk and pour this sludge over the pie. Bake the pie in a 400-degree oven for 20 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and cook another 20 to 25 minutes. The last 10 minutes you may want to cover the crust with strips of foil. Let the pie stand 10 minutes before carving. This will serve four.

I do plan on making this pie when my calories will allow me!<G> But it will be homemade crust!<LOL> Can't stand that store bought frozen pie crusts! Pie crust is really not that hard, but does take practice! A portion of flour, a little salt, a chunk of Crisco--a bit of working with the fingertips, a dab of water and roll it out!<G> Pie crust in an instant! Sorry--had to tease ya! Mamie
